A cross vault system that transforms a winery into a space of unmistakable architectural character.
The Vineria del Carmine winery commissioned Pietrantiche to design a space capable of honouring both the craft of winemaking and the heritage of Italian brick architecture.
The answer is a system of cross barrel vaults, conceived to give the space a sense of continuity, depth, and rhythm. Each vault rises and meets the next with measured precision, defining an environment whose geometry is both structurally resolved and visually compelling.
Central skylights punctuate the vault sequence at regular intervals, introducing zenithal light that plays across the surface of the brick and amplifies the perception of volume. The interplay between light, shadow, and the warm texture of the handmade brick changes throughout the day and with the seasons — dramatic at noon, intimate by evening, always unmistakable.
